Where to eat Brunch or Lunch in Montreal
Prohibition
With brunch dishes like Maple Fried Challah French Toast and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Blueberry Compote and Sugar Bacon you know you’re in for something special. Prohibition serves up some tasty and inventive brunch dishes along with great service and a wonderful terrace during the warmer months. Get there early as this place often gets full with locals and others in the know.
Leméac
If you’re looking for a classy place to bring the whole family or for a special brunch out with friends, this classic Outremont restaurant is a great bet. Beautifully designed and buzzing, this cozy joint offers up great, consistent food and service. Favourites include the smoked salmon made in the restaurant’s own smokers, French toast and the homemade doughnuts. Leméac is one of those restaurants you’ll fall back on again and again.
Byblos
Bored of the usual brunch options? Why not try something a little different at Byblos, a Middle Eastern restaurant. How about a feta omelette, or a plate with an assortment of cheese, bread, fine herbs and halva? Soaring ceilings, artwork and a family-friendly vibe make this neighbourhood restaurant extremely popular so arrive early or be prepared to wait.
Where to go for Dinner in Montreal
Provisions
If you’re looking for something fresh and innovative check out Provisions. This tiny restaurant in Montreal’s Outremont neighbourhood serves market-fresh cooking and an interesting menu concept. Diners choose the main component of their meal from a chalkboard menu and the dish is built around that component from what’s seasonally on hand that day. It’s a bit of a surprise but we’ve never been disappointed — it offers a new twist to make the entire experience exciting and fun. Excellent service and great cocktails round out the experience.
Sumac
A casual, family-friendly restaurant in St-Henri, Restaurant Sumac serves up impeccable Middle Eastern food. Fluffy warm pitas, airy falafels, fresh vegetables, gorgeous chicken and amazing hummus are just a few of our favourites at this popular joint. The location is light and airy, perfect for a quick bite or an inexpensive night out with friends.
Nini Meatball House
Looking for somewhere beautifully designed, where you can get a great drink and that’s close to downtown? Nini Meatball House is a great bet with a bright restaurant, convenient location in Montreal’s Griffintown neighbourhood and an inventive cocktails menu. No guesses for what’s on the menu though. Our favourites are the classics including the beef and tomato sauce and the falafel. Top it all off with a choose-it-yourself ice cream sandwich. We hear the peanut butter and caramel combo is highly addictive.
Where to Eat or Drink Something Fun in Montreal
Rustique
Pies, squares, cookies and marshmallows are waiting for you at this pretty spot located in Montreal’s up and coming St-Henri neighbourhood. Rustique is described as a country pie stand in the city and it’s easy to see why the pies are the stars of the show. Cherry, blueberry, lime and peach pies all make the cut depending on the time of the year, and the team creates mini pies of each flavour so you can try more than one. For us, the cherry pie always wins along with their friendly customer service and great coffee.
Melk
Neighbourhood favourite Melk offers some of the best coffee, scones, cookies and muffins west of downtown. Located on a bustling commercial street in the cozy neighbourhood of NDG, this small café is the place to catch up with friends, warm up with their great selection of coffee or just sit back with one of their scones and watch the crowd go by. If you can’t make it to NDG they’ve just opened up a beautifully designed location in downtown Montreal.
Hof Kelsten
If you’re looking for some of the best bread, baked treats and sandwiches in town, Hof Kelsten is a great option. Owner Jeffrey Finkelstein worked at some of the most famous restaurants in the world including Noma, El Bulli, French Laundry and Per Se before coming back to his hometown and opening up his wonderful smelling bakery on Montreal’s famous St-Laurent Boulevard. If you can scoop it up before it’s sold out, we recommend the chocolate babkah. It’s to die for.
