James Cunningham and the Food Gays
James Cunningham from Eat Street was in Vancouver spending some time with local food bloggers on a street food crawl this past week. Here he is with FBC Members The Food Gays in this photo from Sean of Flavourtown Adventures as seen in the FBC Food Photo Flickr Group

FBC2014 tickets went on sale this past Friday and we thank everyone who bought a ticket so far, taking advantage of our Early Bird Pricing (and a chance to win their ticket!).   We'll have more FBC2014 announcements coming this week so if you've bought a ticket, you'll want to tune in to find out what else is in store.  And if you're on the fence, we have a feeling you might be won over this week!

Top Chef Canada KickOff - With FBC Represented!

Top Chef Canada kicks off its new season tonight on Food Network.  The popular show is in its fourth season and we know who we'll be cheering for.  FBC Member Pierre Lamielle of Food On Your Shirt (and also the illustrator of the beautiful cookbook, Alice Eats!) will be among the competitors this year.  So be sure to tune in!

Tea Giveaways

We must be all craving spring after this brutal winter.  Spring makes us think of tea parties and so it seems very appropriate that two of our members are hosting tea giveaways for you to participate in!

Deb at Ate by Ate is hosting a tea giveaway for a goodie box chock full of tea: loose leaf, sachets, and tea bags in a plethora of flavours from brands such as Tea Forte, 4 O’Clock, Harney & Sons, David’s Tea, and Twinings just to name a handful!  Everything will be packaged up in a decorated box and sent to the lucky winner by mail (if the winner lives in Toronto, even better, Deb will meet up and do a drop-off/pick-up!).

And on the west coast, Gwen at Devour & Conquer is giving away a Tea Sparrow March Tea Box as part of her review of Tea Sparrow.  She's also got a great discount code if you want to try out Tea Sparrow for yourself.

So if you're a tea lover, be sure to pop by the blogs of both ladies and enter to win!

And, nothing screams spring like fresh smoothies! Mardi from eat.live.travel.write is giving away a new KitchenAid blender and a copy of Monica Shaw's Smarter, Fitter Smoothies over on her blog (Canadian residents only).  Another great giveaway to take part in!

The Spice Box

We'll be kicking off a new monthly column this coming Saturday called The Spice Box.  Michelle Peters-Jones of The Tiffin Box is a lady who knows her spices and once a month she'll be sharing that knowledge with us with a Spice Box profile.  She'll give us a little background on some common (and not so common) spices, show us how they can be used and hopefully tempt us all to add a little extra kick to our cooking!

Navigating Food Choices: A #CanolaConnect Event (WINNIPEG)

The Manitoba Canola Growers are hosting an event on March 26th to launch the newest in their Be Well Story Videos.  If you've seen the previous ones, you know how inspiring they can be.  This one features farmer Curtis McRae and FBC member and home economist Mairlyn Smith.  The launch is free and kicks off at 7pm at the Winnipeg Aviation Museum.  There will be live tweeting (@CanolaGrowers, #CanolaConnect) snacks, a cash bar and a chance to network as well as a Q&A session after the video screening!  For more information and to register to attend, visit the Be Well Blog.
