Name: Karen Ahmed

Blog name: Kravings Food Adventures

Where were you born? Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Where are you living now? Toronto. Canada

Why did you start your blog?

I loved food and creating recipes and my coworkers encouraged me to start a blog.

How did you decide on your blog name?

I asked my friend for some sugestions, since it all started from my rants and ravings about ill-mannered TTC riders on my facebook page she suggested K for Karen and Kravings was born. It was intended to be about me ranting and raving but turned into recipes and ‘cravings’

What do you blog about?

Recipes

Is your blog your business, your hobby or something in between?

It’s a hobby if you can call an obsessive passion that .. it’s also turning into a side source of income, but I’m not ready to take it on full time yet.

What post on your blog most encapsulates you and why?

Usually it’s all of my "years in review", which I started once I started my YouTube channel. I log all my trials and tribulations every year which gives me a chance to reflect on my achievements and shortcomings.

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

Chicken Manchurian. This is such a popular recipe that I’m surprised it didn’t do as well

Kani Style Japanese Crab Salad. I never realized a Pokemon character would make this salad popular!

What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?

My challenge is trying to be both a YouTube creator and a blogger and put out great content while maintaining a full time job!

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a blogger?

Focus on what’s important, and just do that well. And then, try to do everything else 🙂

Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them?

The Tiffin Box and Diversivore. I love these blogs because they are informative and tell a story. When I research a recipe for a post or video, I’m always looking to find something interesting about the recipe that I can share with my subscribers.

I LOVE Thai food. This has been a new passion over the last year or so. I’ve spent some time researching this fabulous cuisine and have tackled recipe after recipe, like these to the great delight of my family.

What are you working on next for your blog?

I’m trying to develop easy and exciting recipes that people can make quickly on a busy weeknight. It’s tough to find a recipe that is easy and has mass appeal. On the other hand, I’m also always developing recipes for my weekend uploads which are more traditional but also look really easy to replicate.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

I’m pretty much an open book, but I don’t know if too many people know that I learned how to cook at the age of 18, pretty much on a whim. Since my mom & grandmother were not in the city at the time, I had to rely on a book and my sense of intuition. I also paint and went to art college for 5 years. I really, really, really wanted to be Madonna and would walk around with a fake beauty spot painted on my face.

What makes your blog unique?

I like to simplify things. Sometimes recipes look way more daunting than they should. Making recipes easy is one of the things that I am most appreciated for.

What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?

I find everything pretty useful. The posts about various parts of the business are informative and easy to refer back to. I also love the facebook extension where we can interact with other bloggers.
