Every Monday on her YouTube channel, food trends expert, Dana McCauley gives us the low down on the trends that are happening in the food world. Stop by FBC on Tuesdays for a little extra insight from Dana on how you as a food blogger can use this information in your work!
The idea of having a target market may sound very corporate, but it's important for all creative people who want to share their work. Identifying your target market early in the process of developing a product -- whether it's a soft drink, an industrial product or a blog - helps to focus your thinking so that you make the correct design and communication choices. It also helps you when you try to attract important decision makers (such as book agents, sponsors and advertisers if you're a blogger) since they are also looking to attract or influence certain customer groups in order to grow their businesses.
Early in my career, I often tried to develop ideas that had universal appeal; sadly, the end product was often bland. My work may have been 'liked' by many but it was 'loved' by few. It wasn't until I consciously focused on my best customers and started making choices that served their needs that my ideas began to connect with enough people to be called successful.
That's why I chose to talk about Millennial Mom in this week's Food Trends TV video. If she's your target reader, get to know her. She's different from Boomer Mom, so a fresh set of tactics and approaches need to be learned if you want to capture her attention.
So, next time you sit down to write a blog post, take a second and think about who will love it. Then decide what you can emphasize -- and what you should delete --to make him or her love it so much that s/he shares the post and comes back to read the next one.

Great video and so true. Makes complete sense to me as a blogger/writer and I will keep this in the back of my mind as I prepare my next post!
