Every Monday on her YouTube channel, food trends expert Dana McCauley gives us the lowdown on the trends that are happening in the food world. Stop by FBC on Tuesdays for a little extra insight from Dana on how you as a food blogger can use this information in your work! This summer, Dana is running her Summer Flavour Forecast highlighting some of the flavour trends you can expect to see playing out this fall and into the new year!
Welcome to 2015, the year of the cocktail flavoured everything. While the idea of taking cocktail flavours such as Pina Colada and translating them into recipes for decadent desserts isn’t new, there’s never been as many ways to indulge in these flavours as there is this year.
While the appeal is obvious for adults who like the scents and flavours of their favourite cocktails to want them in non-alcoholic but still indulgent formats, what’s interesting to me is that many of the new products being created seem particularly appealing to children. We agreed as a society that candy cigarettes were a no-no but now lollipops and jelly beans with cocktail flavours and bubble baths with cocktail scents are readily available to prime the palates of young people for these adult flavours.
Perhaps I’m taking my concerns too far. What do you think? Should these cocktail flavoured foods come with an age warning?
