Name: Bryan Picard

Blog name and URL: The Bite House  http://thebitehouse.com/

Where were you born? A small rural village in North West New Brunswick.

Where are you living now? Cape Breton Island.

Why did you start your blog?  To share my recipes with friends and family.

How did you decide on your blog name?  It was the result of a brain storming session over the Holidays at my in-laws. Martinis were shaken for inspiration. After countless suggestions and rejections, The Bite House stuck. Everyone likes lighthouses and everyone likes a good pun.

What do you blog about?  The blog features recipes that I make at home. Consider it an online cookbook of straightforward, from-scratch recipes that use local and seasonal ingredients from the Maritimes.

What post are you most proud of and why?  I think there's always room for improvement, but a recent favourite would be the Cauliflower and Kale Pasta. It's cheesy, creamy, and flavoured with fresh oregano. Try it, it's fantastic.

Which post do you wish received more love and why? Country Mustard, because making mustard from scratch is easy and is a great alternative to the store-bought kind. It's also tweak-able; you can personalize it by adding balsamic, honey, or herbs like rosemary or thyme.

Which post’s success surprised you and why? Butternut Squash Potato Cakes. I am still surprised by the amount of traffic they bring in because, basically, the recipe is grated squash and potatoes, mixed together and pan-fried. But I'm a big supporter of all things simple, so it fits.

What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without?   A pen and a notepad. Making lists is my way of keeping organized.

What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without?  I've been using a small convection oven since the oven knob of our 1960 electric/wood stove broke off. I don't have too many gadgets though. It's amazing how much you can do with a knife and a skillet.

Favourite food, care to share a recipe?  Mushrooms and mussels are probably my favourite foods. I'm planning mussels au gratin for an upcoming post. Stay tuned.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?  I have a dog named Chester who loves kale and carrots. I'll have to fence the garden this year to make sure he can't get in!

What makes your blog unique?  An old bench that my godmother gifted me. I credit it with all my success in photography.
