As part of FBC’s 5th anniversary we’re sharing a special 24-day Holiday Countdown from December 1st to the 24th. We’re going back in time to reconnect with some very special FBC Members. These Canadian food bloggers were among the very first FBCers to be showcased in our Friday Featured Blogger series that still runs today (we’ve featured almost 250 bloggers in five years!).

How has your blog evolved over the past 5 years?

When I started my blog 7 years ago, I posted every type of recipe - decadent desserts, meals for entertaining and regular family nights, and everything in between.  Several years ago, I started focusing on eating healthier foods, which ultimately resulted in a 30-pound weight loss.  I changed the focus of my blog to reflect my healthier eating habits, as well as adding in some exercise, travel and blogging tips posts.  It’s been a journey!

What’s your favourite holiday tradition?

Each year since my husband and I married, 17 years ago, all of our relatives (my parents, and my husband’s parents and brother) have gathered in one home for Christmas, rotating between our three cities, Victoria, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City (now Seattle). Our boys have grown up with their grandparents and uncle as integral parts of the holiday, including all of the traditions that come along with that.

This was a tough one for me.  While I could eat stuffing with gravy until the cows come home, I do love the freshness of a healthy vegetable recipe to keep things light.  These Shredded Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios, Cranberries & Parmesan made me fall in love with Brussels sprouts.

What are the must have staples in your holiday pantry?

Do cookies and Nutella fudge count as staple items? 🙂 It’s just not the holidays without cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger!  We also stock the fridge with plenty of healthy snacks, such as veggies, hummus and yogurt to lighten things up between meals.
