Every now and then something comes along and it's shocking that no one had already come up with this idea! Alice Eats: The Wonderland Cookbook falls into this category. That's right, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (or Alice in Wonderland) is now in illustrated cookbook form!

AliceEats

Cakes labelled β€œEat Me”, tea-time treats from a Mad Hatter’s party, and a plate of tarts stolen from a queen have all been brought to life by authors Pierre A. Lamielle and Julie Van Rosendaal. Their new book, Alice Eats, includes the full text of the original Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, as well as recipes, photographs and new, full-colour illustrations that are as quirky as the story itself.

This book is perfectly suited for a child who just likes to look at pretty pictures, anyone who loves to cook and everyone else who just wants to reminiscence from their childhood. It's really a perfect gift for anyone and just in time for the holidays!

Alice Eats will delight, entertain, and inspire. The assortment of inventive recipes in this book, all inspired by characters and events from the original story, include such imaginative and enticing dishes as:

  • Alice’s Homemade Crumpets with Bittersweet Marmalade
  • Caterpillar’s Double-Stuffed Mushroom Caps with Two Filling Flavours
  • Cheshire Cat’s Grinny Grainy Mustard Rarebit
  • Mock Turtle’s Mock Turtle Soup
  • The Queen of Hearts’ Jam Tarts

The authors don't need much of an introduction, but here it is along with their recent appearance on Breakfast Television in Vancouver.

I am just home from Christmas in November held at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge every year (which would be an INCREDIBLE location for a Canadian Food Blogging Conference, too!) and my cheeks still hurt after watching Julie and Pierre’s presentation! Not because I sat so long, but because they are soooooo funny. So so so funny. I would LOVE the book!

What a wonderful book to be able to have. I can just picture a mother and daughter sitting together in a big chair reading through the book and planning goodies to make. A real memory making heirloom to pass down.

My colleagues and I are mounting a full length ballet version of Alice in February. Obviously, this book would be of great assistance when trying to fill the bellies of hungry dancers backstage…
